“All
of the Negative Traits That You Spot in Others
Are Merely
a Reflection of Your Own Negative Traits.
Only By Fixing
Yourself Can You Change Others.”
Light or Dark?
A Kabbalistic
View
There
seems to be a bit of confusion about the true essence of being in the
“light”. People constantly say
that they are walking in the light or are from the light. Let’s examine this principle a little more
closely.
In Kabbalah we learn that when
we operate in the light we are coming from the perspective of receiving
things from the Creator for the good of all.
When we are operating in the dark, we are looking to receive for
the self alone. To make this even more simple, Kabbalah teaches
that “the Satan” can also be referred to as “Ego”. When you look at darkness and “the Satan” that
way, it changes your whole view.
Often times we react to other peoples behavior
towards us in a very selfish way. But
why are we reacting? Is it because
this person really brought harm to us, our physical bodies or our spirit? When we react in anger, it is because in some
way our Ego was hurt. When someone
does or says something to you that causes you to react, examine it.
A
client called me one day and was frantic about how a co-worker was treating
her. She was furious, calling
this woman every name imagineable. After
she finished venting, I asked her why it was bothering her so much, and
why she was reacting so angrily. She
matter-of-factly said, “Well wouldn’t it bother you”? “Don’t I have a right to be angry”? Then I asked her if it was bothering her because in some way this
treatment affected everyone, or was it only affecting her? Then I asked her if it was possible that her
“Ego” was being attacked by this co-worker and that’s why it was so upsetting.
After almost yelling at me, she realized that the co-worker’s treatment
was not hurting her in any way but she was reacting because she had not
found approval from the woman. Her reaction was solely based on not having
the approval of someone else. EGO
Most of our reactions and battles stem from the desire
to receive for the self alone. Whether
that receiving is in the form of approval, recognition or personal gain,
it originates within the Ego. If
I proclaim to be a light worker, I must examine my motivations for what
I am doing. Am I helping others
to gain approval for myself? Am
I holding back the truth from someone so they won’t disapprove of me? Or am I operating in a place of unconditional
love and truth, regardless of my gains or losses? When you begin to examine your own life, you
will see where “the Satan” or “Ego” prompts you to react and behave in
ways contrary to the Light.
In the next article, we will discuss how to
live abundantly without walking in the “Dark”
